Event: The National Hurricane Center advises that Tropical Storm Elsa is headed towards the Eastern Caribbean. Winds are currently 45 mph and may strengthen as the storm proceeds. Tropical storm conditions are expected beginning early Friday in portions of the Windward and southern Leeward Islands. Elsa is then expected to move into the eastern Caribbean Sea late Friday and Friday night, and move near the southern coast of Hispaniola on Saturday. By early Sunday Elsa is forecast to move near portions of eastern Cuba.
Tropical Storm Warnings are currently in effect for the southern Leeward Islands, including Barbados, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, and Martinique. Tropical Storm Watches are in effect for several of the islands in the northern Lesser Antilles. The National Hurricane Center advises of a risk of wind and rainfall impacts as far north as parts of the British Virgin Islands.
